Setup or reinstate a Direct Debit for paying VAT

This guide will take you step-by-step through setting up (or reinstating) on the HMRC portal paying your VAT by Direct Debit.

HMRC are continually modifying the screens, some steps may appear different.

Log in to your business tax account via HMRC Online Services.

2. Once in your HMRC Business tax account scroll down and select "View your VAT account"

3. On the "Your VAT account" screen scroll down to the "Manage your VAT" area and select "Payments and repayments"

4. Select "Set up a Direct Debit" and select "Continue"

5. Select desired email address and select "Continue"

6. Enter the bank account details and select "Continue"

7. Check the details and select "Confirm and set up Direct Debit"

8. From the confirmation screen select "Return to tax account"

9. Sign out of your Business tax account
